Feinstein Doyle Payne & Kravec, LLC attorneys filed the first class action lawsuit for checking account customers of PNC Bank who were charged excessive overdraft fees because of PNC’s unfair method of charging debits to their accounts.
Instead of deducting debit charges from customer accounts in the order they arrived, PNC rearranged the debits and deducted them in the order of the highest to the lowest debit amount. This method increased the number of overdrafts and caused overdraft fees to customers to skyrocket. PNC, in turn, enjoyed increased revenues at their customers’ expense.
This class action lawsuit is pending in the United States District Court for the Southern District of Florida. A tentative settlement has been reached.
